THE LORD CALVERTS
THE INSOMNIACS

From off the streets of Baltimore, '60s garage-rock legends The Lord Calverts are back! Relocated to New York City, the L.C.s are once again in front of audiences, delivering their own take on true American roots rock: loud, crass, catchy and quick!

Over the course of the last 20 years, The Insomniacs released a slew of acclaimed power garage pop records, mostly on the legendary Estrus Records label. During that time, the band has done several tours of the USA, festivals and tours in Germany, Holland, Spain, Norway and Sweden. Highlights include shows with The Swingin' Neckbreakers, Fleshtones, Woggles, Troggs, Makers, Nomads, Lord High Fixers, Lyres, Mighty Caesars, Headcoats, Stems, DM3 and The Remains. The band is a regular fixture on Little Steven's Underground Garage radio program and had a featured Coolest Song In The World several times over the years.

Together since Summer of 2012, The Bloodshots have been making waves and making friends around New York City with their honest approach to roots-Rockabilly. HAMISH KILGOUR (THE CLEAN)
DEBBY SCHWARTZ (PG SIX/EMBER SCHRAG)
GARCIA PEOPLESHARPOON FOREVER

Incredibly, after all his work as a founding member of both The Clean and The Mad Scene, Hamish Kilgour has never released a proper solo album of his own, until now. Fans who have followed his work over the years will no doubt be pleased with his debut release All Of It And Nothing, an ode to the power of jangle, highlighting Kilgour’s innate ability to both gleam the melodic cube and let the choogle of a chord progression ride itself to greatness. The album carries a distinct hushed intimacy, full of soft-spoken phrases and light guitar play, which belies the power of the music it provides.

Ragged And Rowdy

BEN HOPE & THE UPTOWN OUTFIT
PETE LANCTOT & THE STRAY DOGS

Ben Hope & The Uptown Outfit are a country band based in NYC. The group, fronted by Ben Hope (from Broadway's Once) features Miles Aubrey on lead guitar and Andy Galore on bass. These days the drummer spot seems to rotate between several very talented dudes, such as John Rochette and Joe Cogen. There is no better band to drink whisky to, and no better reason to put on your cowboy boots and come out on a New York City night.

Pete Lanctot is a singer songwriter living in Brooklyn, NY. His songs are surreal and mysterious narratives often featuring sordid casts of characters who’s time, locations and origins are vague, and seem equally likely to be found in present day NYC, a Memphis juke joint of the '20s or hitchhiking a depression-era plains state highway. Musically, Pete’s songs carry on the American traditions of blues, folk and country music while avoiding reproduction and derivation, and embrace sonic experimentalism and the avant garde. Traditional blues and ballad forms are bent from their original shapes by untraditional playing techniques, droning accompaniments, and interactive free improvisation within the band. In a live setting, Pete accompanies his singing with a wide array of instruments including guitar, viola, violin, accordion and the haunting sounds of a strohviolin (a bowed string instrument where the sound is produced through a metal gramaphone-like horn). His band features a rotating cast of talented musicians and improvisers. Often utilizing very traditional blues, country and string band instrumentations (upright bass, drums, guitar, horns, banjo and pedal steel), the result is far from a polite Americana sound.

THE JAMES ROCKET • NU-SONICS

Come out for a night of rock with Nu-Sonics and a double-shot of The James Rocket as they continue what appears to be a really lazy, strung out residency at Hank's Saloon.

The James Rocket are sixteen strings and a drum kit of ukulele-free indie-rock. Some guy said they sounded like GBV and Sugar had a baby, but we're pretty sure he's full of shit.

Nu-Sonics are a shotgun wedding of the ringing hooks of Big Star and the rootsy grit of Neil Young & Crazy Horse, and frontman Alex Sniderman is funnier than you.

LOWLARK
68CREEP

Lowlark are a rock'n'roll band that aspires to play North American songs with grit, groove, and soul. They think music is a verb, and aim to move on the same vital trajectory as Muddy Waters, Merle Haggard, The Band, Gram Parsons, Springsteen, Whiskeytown, Drive By Truckers, and Ray Wylie Hubbard.

You can call it cosmic Americana or alt-country/soul or funky rock'n'roll, but don’t want to get all caught up with that. Lowlark just want to play music they love and see if we can’t dance down the path of the righteous without falling down too often. The band currently spend their time in the People’s Republic of Brooklyn and the great state of New Jersey.

EXILES2:FRAIL
THE STAMMERLOW-WAYS

The Stammer is a three-piece rock -- post punk? -- band from Philadelphia whose "down and dirty dance floor sensations for '80s-goth and new wave fanatics" were also described in French as "sans prétention et accessible" by The Rest Is Only Noise... 2¦Frail was formed in 2008 in San Francisco, CA, by JMA. The music, defined as darkgaze, is a homogenous mix of post-punk, shoegaze and psychedelic rock, and has been featured on playlists and compilations such as Shoegazer Alive, DKFM Shoegaze Radio, Psychgazer 8, and Under The Avalanche III... Exiles is a female-fronted dream-gaze, surf-pop band based in Brooklyn. Indie Shuffle writes: "Filled with jangly, reverb-infused electric guitar playing out over mellow rhythms, you can almost feel the sun setting after a long day at the beach."... Low-Ways (members of NYC stalwarts The Scene Is Now) are a minimal dance-rock duo explores space/rhythm/repetition with bouncing synths and jagged guitar lines.

Turn You On

BROTHER JT (ex-Original Sins)
THE SPLIT SIGNALS

The Brother JT saga (proper) begins in the early '90s. The Brother had been doing a bunch of solo recording that he felt were outside the scope of the Original Sins. One night he ended up on a Siltbreeze tour that alighted at the rural homestead of bald, music fatty, Byron Coley. Chemicals were in the air, and when JT played him some tapes, the results were released as the first Brother JT album, Descent,on Wayne Rogers and Kate Biggars' Twisted Village label. This led to an array of other JT projects, many of which paralleled the Sins' trajectory, until he decided to pursue the Brother JT psych-path more exclusively. Results appeared on such labels as Drunken Fish, Siltbreeze and Drag City, and man, they were great. Now he has made his debut on Thrill Jockey, and it is, perhaps, his most outstanding effort yet.

The Svelteness of Boogietude is a typical of JT's output in certain ways — rockers mixed with ballads, all of them crafted with causal elegance — but there are new elements here as well. In particular, there's an attention to the legacy of later-period T. Rex, which results in tunes that kick total ass. Coley, having seen Bolan play during his Zinc Alloy/Zip Gun Boogie period, went so far as to claim that "JT's approach to this stuff equals that of the Master — huge riff-based anthems that balance glam dynamics with mystical history on the head of a pin." JT also manages to pull of ballads that can remind one of Beat Happening (“Gliding”) or what it might be like to hear Warren Zevon covering the Velvets (“Somebody Down There”), a lost track by the Stalk Forrest Group (“Muffintop”) or even a Kevin Ayers/Scott Walker move so bold you'll shiver (“I Still Like Cassettes”).

It's inconceivable that anyone who truly digs rock music will not be sucked deeply into the vortex of Boogietude. We can only pray that you will hear it, to experience the massive wonders of he who is Brother JT. From his remote headquarters in Central PA, the Brother has let another massive arrow fly. Don't not get in its way.
