BORN LOOSE • LIVIDS • THE SHIRKS
(STOP WORRYING AND) LOVE THE BOMB
Featuring an all-star line up with Larry May (Candy Snatchers), Suke (Snuka/Iron Prostate/Candy Snatchers), Shane Konen (Live Ones/ Ghetto Ways) and Eric Robel (Heroin Sheiks/Nova Express), Born Loose comes out swinging with real and raging rock'n'roll. Definitely a fresh breath of air for all those dying in indie-rock land.
So perhaps you heard that Mr. Eric Davidson (New Bomb Turks) has a new band going with the likes of Jami Wolf (Shop Fronts/Zodiac Killers), Daniel Kelley (Dead Ringers/Complaints/Paper Bags), and Greg Collins (Radio 4/Milhouse). If you think that sounds kinda awesome, you’d be absolutely right! I mean, come on! The greatness of Livids was inevitable. This Brooklyn punk rock supergroup, well-known to tear shit up live, obviously if you’re a New Bomb Turks fan, you’ll dig. Davidson, a living legend if there ever was one, has never sounded better. And his star-studded band more than lives up to expectations. You could easily pass Livids off as forgotten punk greats from punk’s class of 1977.
Scuzzed-out Washington DC speed-punk primitivists don’t sound like a band that practices in the garage. The Shirks sound like a band that sets the garage on fire just to watch it burn. They’re the kind of guys who, asked to describe their sound, say simply, “loud.”
Formed somewhere between the Black Cat and Ben’s Chili Bowl in Washington, DC, (Stop Worrying And) Love The Bomb was born out of breakups. Sal Go’s and Mike’s old bands used to play shows together, so when the two met by chance at a Jay Reatard show in 2008, they talked bands, their respective failed relationships (Sal’s band/Mike’s girlfriend), and the new-foundabundance of free time on their hands. On the walk to get chili dogs after the show, they decided to form a band in the vein of The Reatards, Teengenerate, New Bomb Turks, blah blah blah. Sometimes the results have been in that ballpark, other times the sound is a little different, but it’s the same basic idea; short, fast, meat-and-potatoes punk.
