Rainfall And Laughter

MARCELLUS HALL & THE FOLLOWING GUESTS

RUBY RAE

Marcellus Hall has recorded with the bands Railroad Jerk and White Hassle and has toured the US, Europe, and Japan. He continues to make music under his own name. A solo album, The First Line, was recorded with accompanying musicians and released on Glacial Pace Recordings in 2011. A second solo album, Afterglow, was recorded and released with The Hostages in 2013. Hall now records and performs with The Following Guests (Damon Smith, Mike Shapiro, and others), formerly known as The Hostages).

The ultimate in the burgeoning garage folk art rock literate dance acoustic idiom that is sweeping the city. Hall and his band deliver like no one else. No one even comes fucking close. There is a reason why all of New York is talking about New York’s best kept secret. If it’s great music you’re looking for, you’ve come to the right place. You won’t want to miss this!

ANDI RAE & THE BACK RIVER BULLIES
RUBY RAE • SECRET COUNTRY

Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Andi Rae Healy has been a mainstay on New York City’s indie-country scene for nearly a decade. Her debut album, I Guess I Am A Sinner — featuring contributions from artists as diverse as pop princess, Cyndi Lauper and indie darling, Jill Sobule — was released in 2006 and earned rave reviews for its deep melodicism, lush production, and its brutally honest and painfully heartfelt lyrics.

Ruby Rae writes and performs music that defies easy categorization: a catalogue of influences would include Wanda Jackson, Mazzy Star, and Lori McKenna. Both vibrant and dark, simultaneously catchy and psychological, the sound is cinematic and complex, drawing on diverse sources that include folklore, mythology, horror films, and autobiography.

Secret Country was born out of a love of outlaw country, cold beers, and hot dogs. Originally an acoustic duo performing at parties, bbq’s, and bars, the advent of original material led to an augmentation of the group through various lineup changes into the quintet that you’ve heard tantalizing your eardrums for the last decade.

Wild Unknown

Ruby Rae’s debut release title Double Feature could easily be mistaken for a night at the local drive-in when rock'n'roll still flirted with its honky-tonk roots. Her songs "It Came from the Swamp" and "Invisible Man" showcase country inflected instrumentation paired with heartfelt and sinister stories of guns, love, and loneliness. Backed by a full band on her second EP The Outskirts, Ruby Rae's explores the outsider element of a small American town.

Look What Your Love Has Done to Me

PETER LANCTOT & THE STRAY DOGS
HONEY & THE MISBEHAVERS • RUBY RAE

Pete Lanctot is a singer songwriter living in Brooklyn, NY. His songs are surreal and mysterious narratives often featuring sordid casts of characters who’s time, locations and origins are vague, and seem equally likely to be found in present day NYC, a Memphis juke joint of the '20s or hitchhiking a depression-era plains state highway.

Musically, Pete’s songs carry on the American traditions of blues, folk and country music while avoiding reproduction and derivation, and embrace sonic experimentalism and the avant garde.  Traditional blues and ballad forms are bent from their original shapes by untraditional playing techniques, droning accompaniments, and interactive free improvisation within the band.

In a live setting, Pete accompanies his singing with a wide array of instruments including guitar, viola, violin, accordion and the haunting sounds of a strohviolin (a bowed string instrument where the sound is produced through a metal gramaphone-like horn). His band features a rotating cast of talented musicians and improvisers. Often utilizing very traditional blues, country and string band instrumentations (upright bass, drums, guitar, horns, banjo and pedal steel), the result is far from a polite Americana sound.

KEVIN EGAN IS A JERK
RUBY RAE • OLIVIA AND THE MATES

"Kevin Egan Is A Jerk is the latest musical endeavor by singer/author Kevin Egan. Though you may know Kevin best from his late '80s/early '90s work with NYHC's Beyond and 1.6 Band, his newest release reflects more on his later recordings as Rules Of The Fort and most recently his work with the country act Twenty Four Thousand Dollars... Folky acoustic storytelling that is both laid back and heart warming." -United By Rocket Science
