A Passing Moment of Madness

THE MIDNIGHT GHOST TRAIN
ACTIVATOR • WASTED THEORY

"The Midnight Ghost Train's music, at times, sounds like the great Depression-era blues shouter Blind Willie Johnson, if he had fronted the ‘60s San Francisco band Blue Cheer, at their sludgiest. At other times, like a long lost soundtrack to an unreleased Jim Jarmusch film. It is a mix of Delta blues, gospel and of course, passionate rock'n'roll. You have to hear it to believe it..." -SevenEightFive

Ways Of Escape

GREAT LAKES • TRUMMORS
DIRTY BUSINESS

Great Lakes formed in 1996 in Athens, Georgia and released a self-titled debut in 2000.  Over the years they've dabbled in psychedelic pop, garage-rock, folk, and country. Though fronted by Ben Crum since its inception, the band has always enjoyed a rotating cast of accomplished collaborators. The band has toured the US and Europe many times, and has released four albums, with a fifth due out in 2014.  All of the band's albums are available from Orange Twin.

Trummors is a duo formed by Anne Cunningham, a songwriter and Ph.D. candidate in Comparative Literature, and David Lerner, formerly of Ted Leo & The Pharmacists. Using primarily acoustic instruments, Trummors harken back to the warm sounds of close-harmony duos, country-rock, and '70s pop, while also incorporating elements of psychedelic-folk including harmonium drones and finger style guitar.  Their debut album is available from Ernest Jenning, and a new LP will see release in the coming months.

All The Filth!

THE PORK DUKES (UK)
THE CLAP (Killed By Death heroes)

Formed in 1976, The Pork Dukes were ruder than the Sex Pistols, but didn’t achieve the Pistols’ notoriety. Playing incognito, there were rumours the Pork Dukes featured Keith Moon on vocals, members of Led Zeppelin, The Rezillos, Tenpole Tudor, Steeleye Span, and even Dudley Moore... Only some of this was true.

The Pork Dukes released their first single "Bend & Flush" in the heady summer of 1977, and the rude content and cover of the single helped it sell over 20,000 copies. Although the notorious Pork Dukes had three UK indie hit singles and two album releases, they received no radio airplay. That’s not surprising, because the band offended society with sexy song titles, like: "Throbbing Gristle," "Making Bacon," "My Mother Gave Me A Gun For Xmas," "I Like Your Big Tits, Let’s See If It Fits" and "Telephone Masturbator."

The late, legendary UK DJ John Peel, on his Radio One show, remarked that "the Pork Dukes would have hits with their infuriating catchy singles, were they not so manifestly unbroadcastable!"

But even a nod of approval from Elton John at the time didn’t help: the curiosity surrounding the Pork Dukes afforded them cult status but after releasing two albums the band split in 1979.

Since the band has reformed, three re-released albums have been followed swiftly by a new single, mostly featuring artwork by the renowned UK low-brow fetish artist Vince Ray. The single, "Pop Stars," was produced by Kid Krupa, the late guitarist from 1970s band The Revillos. Clearly, since the heady days of punk a number of people could lay claim to being the rudest singer/band, but no-one does it with the panache, humour and fun of the Pork Dukes. The band has a tongue-in-cheek, punk-fuelled sing-a-long live act that captures the imagination of both sexes – providing you’re open-minded and like a good laugh, because the Pork Dukes were aural sex. They were, and still are, the cream of the obscene.

The Clap are PA punk legends, formed in 1979 and releasing the classic "Don't Say No" b/w "Killed By Kindness" 45 in 1982. The band is likely best known for their inclusion on a later volume of the essential Killed By Death compilation series.

KINGS DESTROY • THE BROUGHT LOW
THE MIGHTY HIGH • REIGN OF ZAIUS

Hailing from the Brooklyn, Kings Destroy features guitarists Carl Porcaro and Chris Skowronski from NYHC legends Killing Time, vocalist Steve Murphy from Uppercut, drummer Rob Sefcik formerly of Man's Ruin, The Begotten, Uppercut and Electric Frankenstein, and bassist Aaron Bumpus. The common bond? "An addiction to excessive volume, power and driving, distorted riffs." With influences ranging from Zeppelin and the Who to The Melvins, Yob and The Cro-Mags, KD describes their sound as "brutal Sabbath heaviness with hardcore outbursts and disturbed vocals verging on the demented."

Hard-rocking, outer-borough power-trio The Brought Low recently released their third full-length album, the aptly titled Third Record, to near-universal acclaim. The Obelisk called them "the best rock and roll band in New York" and The Big Takeover said "Previous albums have been excellent, but Third Record takes the group to a whole 'nother level, indisputably placing The Brought Low in the ranks of the Great American Bands."

The Mighty High are Brooklyn's #1 regressive-rock act... No ballads. No keyboards. NO ACOUSTIC GUITARS!
