HOWARDIAN
999999999 • THE MARTYKINGS • HALF HUMAN

Howardian is a New York City based art rock group fronted by Ian Vanek (Japanther). Howardian is thick with technical poly rhythms, sticky piano driven melodies and sly lyrics. The resulting hip-hop informed pop-rock songs are intended to get crowds moving and butts shaking. Howardian's tracks feature fuzzy, distorted walls of sound and plenty of samples, all with a scuzzy garage-rock vibe.

BUNNIE ENGLAND AND THE NEW ORIGINALS

RE-ANIMADORES (Puerto Rico)
RIP KIDS (Spain) • LOS PEGOTES (Spain)
THE NEIGHBORS (Brooklyn)

With an inherent distaste for pretty much everything, Re-Animadores strip power-pop of its sheen to expose a cynical side of rock'n'roll. The Puerto Rican outfit is wary of the tropical motif; rather than squint at the sun, these guys give it the side-eye. The twangy glee in frontman Ahmed Abizu's riffs is lobotomized by his decidedly flippant vocal tone, while rhythm guitarist Giancarlo Cervoni (Davila 666) gives the four-piece the unchecked punk grit they need to trudge on.

GUITAR LIGHTNIN' LEE
AND HIS THUNDER BAND
FRIGHT BARKER & SONS • THE SAYLAVEES

Guitar Lightnin' Lee, a multi-talented rhythm&blues purist, has defied all rational logic by assembling his band with a bunch of veteran rock'n'rollers half his age. His talent, lyrics, powerful voice, and boisterous personality match perfectly with his backup band. Thus, creating a supercharged blown out style of New Orleans rock'n'roll and blues. The youthful exuberance from all members, especially Lightnin’, keeps the music exciting and gives it the vibrancy it had in it’s heyday.

Raised in the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans over 60 years ago, Lightnin’ had music all around him. After learning from New Orleans blues great Boogie Bill Webb, Lightnin’ went to Chicago to find his inspiration Jimmy Reed. When Jimmy Reed wasn’t throwing Lightnin’ out of his house and telling Lightnin’ to go back to New Orleans, he was showing Lightnin’ his style of Delta Blues via electrified Chicago. After moving back to New Orleans, Lightnin’ played with and around such New Orleans legends as Earl King, Fats Domino, Ernie K-Doe, Little Freddie King, and scores of other brilliant New Orleans musicians. Lightnin’s ears were wide open to the sound around him and he soaked it up like a sponge. For years he listened, learned, and honed his playing and song writing skills in the best of company.

In 1997, Lightnin’ found a young drummer, Paul Artigues (Die Rotzz). They played together for years working on their sound. With the addition of slideman Ted Mathews and bassist Marvin Hirsch they formed the Thunder Band. Guitar Lightnin’ has released two 7-inch records on die Slaughterhaus Records and a self-released CD.

Whatcha Gonna Do About It?

THE LIZA COLBY SOUND
CRAZY MARYTHE GLASS STATE

Black. White. Rock. Soul. The next siren of popular music has arrived. Hailing from the Lower East Side of NYC, The Liza Colby Sound is all things rock'n'roll. Matched with a trio of seasoned virtuoso's, this is a sound born in the '70s and too infrequently carried by a young woman of today. Liza personifies this baton of a rare tradition when she stands amongst these outstanding men. Her beauty remarkable, her arms outstretched and when her mouth opens, there is a distinct sound. A sound that is the youthful rage and lust of garage-rock, a sound that is the temperance and timeless dignity of soul. A sound that is a refined alloy of all the great artists who’ve proceeded her. A sound that demands to be heard. The Liza Colby Sound.
