A Day At The Beach

ATLANTIC THRILLS
HOUSE OF FLOWERS and THE ECCE HOMO BAND

Atlantic Thrills play rowdy garage-rock for punk-slime dance parties. Possessed by the spirit of Los Saicos and the galloping beats of '60s garage, the Atlantic Thrills make rampant rock'n'roll in the shadows of dark psychedelia. Simple but considered chord structures hold together heartfelt songs that range from snarling punk to surfed-out desperado anthems. Known for chaotic live shows, bourbon soaked belligerence, and psychedelic oatmeal cookies, Atlantic Thrills survived their first tour in the fall of 2012 and are arriving at Foo Fest this year to play the last stop of a 15 date east coast tour. Their self titled album is scheduled for release this summer on Almost Ready Records. As a local Providence band, Atlantic Thrills have opened for Thee Oh Sees, The Black Lips, Os Mutantes, Deer Tick, The Vivian Girls, Those Darlins, The John Spencer Blues Explosion, Bloodshot Bill, M.O.T.O., and more.

THE INSOMNIACS

Over the course of the last 20 years, The Insomniacs released a slew of acclaimed power garage pop records, mostly on the legendary Estrus Records label. During that time, the band has done several tours of the USA, festivals and tours in Germany, Holland, Spain, Norway and Sweden. Highlights include shows with The Swingin' Neckbreakers, Fleshtones, Woggles, Troggs, Makers, Nomads, Lord High Fixers, Lyres, Mighty Caesars, Headcoats, Stems, DM3 and The Remains. The Best Day Of Your Life

MALEFACTOR USA
with JOHN KENGLA

The Cleveland-born JP Olsen fronted the Beetkeepers while living in Columbus, who released one album in 1998 before Olsen left Ohio for New York in 1990. In the subsequent years, he worked as a book editor and as an investigative reporter while still making music, usually under the guise of Burn Barrel, a band that took on a couple variations, most famously comprised of Columbus’ Haynes Boys. More recently, he co-authored a book, The Narcotic Farm, and co-produced a documentary film of the same name. As far as music goes, Olsen had been using the moniker The Malefactors Of Great Wealth, under which he released an EP, Today Is The Best Day Of My Life, on the Old 3C label, before recruiting members of the Madison Square Gardeners, a band of mostly Ohio ex-pats, as his band. They released a split 7-inch earlier this year with the Black Swans on which each group did different songs by the same name, “You’ll Never See My Face In Kansas City.” However, after solidifying a new line-up comprised of the Black Swans’ Tyler Evans and the Gardeners’ Rob Heath, Olsen has shortened the name to Malefactor USA.

Got To Have Pop!

BASTARDS OF MELODY
with THE SUCCESSFUL FAILURES

Bastards of Melody have been proudly carrying the power-pop torch since forming in 1998. The NYC band has adhered to a simple formula: impossibly catchy songs with great melodies and interesting arrangements. Comparisons to classic power-pop bands such as Big Star, Cheap Trick or the Raspberries seem apt. Add to that the modern punch of bands such as Superdrag, The Figgs, and Sloan.

Old Times Again

THE MERMAIDS
RAM'S HEAD LADY SLIPPER

Brendan Fitzpatrick has been writing music since he was a buck-tooth, parachute-panted, feather-haired tween. He has played in many bands over the years, most notably as a long-time member of Clem Snide, with whom he tore it up on multiple continents. In late 2010, something broke deep in his mind and he decided that he was going to write a song every day in 2011. He emerged with about an album’s worth of material for each month of that year. The following year, he began recording the songs and putting a band together. In January 2013, Ram's Head Lady Slipper released its first album January and so began a year of albums.

The Mermaids are Hillel Arnold (guitar, bass, vocals) and Josh Gardner (guitar, harmonica, vocals). Steeped in the darker currents of folk and country music but bursting with the raw immediacy of underground rock'n'roll, their recordings and live shows have earned comparisons to Neil Young, Nick Drake, and the Velvet Underground.

Messin' Around In Kings County

The PiggiesThe RingleadersLittle Seizures

Punk in spirit, riffing through roots-dirty, Stones-esque hooks, The Piggies — led by Andy Maltz of The Little Killers — exemplify the good-time, vinyl-hugging rock'n'roll and straight-to-tape aesthetic most bands can only hope for... The Ringleaders is another scorching band featuring rock'n'roll legend Larry May (Candy Snatchers/Born Loose). Tonight's show celebrates the release of their new album on Black Lung Records... Little Seizures — featuring members of The Shemps and The Mess Around, among others — thoroughly rocked Hank's in June so we hadda have them back ASAP!
