THE MIDNIGHT GHOST TRAIN
ACTIVATOR • WASTED THEORY

"The Midnight Ghost Train's music, at times, sounds like the great Depression-era blues shouter Blind Willie Johnson, if he had fronted the ‘60s San Francisco band Blue Cheer, at their sludgiest. At other times, like a long lost soundtrack to an unreleased Jim Jarmusch film. It is a mix of Delta blues, gospel and of course, passionate rock'n'roll. You have to hear it to believe it..." -SevenEightFive

Ways Of Escape

GREAT LAKES • TRUMMORS
DIRTY BUSINESS

Great Lakes formed in 1996 in Athens, Georgia and released a self-titled debut in 2000.  Over the years they've dabbled in psychedelic pop, garage-rock, folk, and country. Though fronted by Ben Crum since its inception, the band has always enjoyed a rotating cast of accomplished collaborators. The band has toured the US and Europe many times, and has released four albums, with a fifth due out in 2014.  All of the band's albums are available from Orange Twin.

Trummors is a duo formed by Anne Cunningham, a songwriter and Ph.D. candidate in Comparative Literature, and David Lerner, formerly of Ted Leo & The Pharmacists. Using primarily acoustic instruments, Trummors harken back to the warm sounds of close-harmony duos, country-rock, and '70s pop, while also incorporating elements of psychedelic-folk including harmonium drones and finger style guitar.  Their debut album is available from Ernest Jenning, and a new LP will see release in the coming months.

All The Filth!

THE PORK DUKES (UK)
THE CLAP (Killed By Death heroes)

Formed in 1976, The Pork Dukes were ruder than the Sex Pistols, but didn’t achieve the Pistols’ notoriety. Playing incognito, there were rumours the Pork Dukes featured Keith Moon on vocals, members of Led Zeppelin, The Rezillos, Tenpole Tudor, Steeleye Span, and even Dudley Moore... Only some of this was true.

The Pork Dukes released their first single "Bend & Flush" in the heady summer of 1977, and the rude content and cover of the single helped it sell over 20,000 copies. Although the notorious Pork Dukes had three UK indie hit singles and two album releases, they received no radio airplay. That’s not surprising, because the band offended society with sexy song titles, like: "Throbbing Gristle," "Making Bacon," "My Mother Gave Me A Gun For Xmas," "I Like Your Big Tits, Let’s See If It Fits" and "Telephone Masturbator."

The late, legendary UK DJ John Peel, on his Radio One show, remarked that "the Pork Dukes would have hits with their infuriating catchy singles, were they not so manifestly unbroadcastable!"

But even a nod of approval from Elton John at the time didn’t help: the curiosity surrounding the Pork Dukes afforded them cult status but after releasing two albums the band split in 1979.

Since the band has reformed, three re-released albums have been followed swiftly by a new single, mostly featuring artwork by the renowned UK low-brow fetish artist Vince Ray. The single, "Pop Stars," was produced by Kid Krupa, the late guitarist from 1970s band The Revillos. Clearly, since the heady days of punk a number of people could lay claim to being the rudest singer/band, but no-one does it with the panache, humour and fun of the Pork Dukes. The band has a tongue-in-cheek, punk-fuelled sing-a-long live act that captures the imagination of both sexes – providing you’re open-minded and like a good laugh, because the Pork Dukes were aural sex. They were, and still are, the cream of the obscene.

The Clap are PA punk legends, formed in 1979 and releasing the classic "Don't Say No" b/w "Killed By Kindness" 45 in 1982. The band is likely best known for their inclusion on a later volume of the essential Killed By Death compilation series.

KINGS DESTROY • THE BROUGHT LOW
THE MIGHTY HIGH • REIGN OF ZAIUS

Hailing from the Brooklyn, Kings Destroy features guitarists Carl Porcaro and Chris Skowronski from NYHC legends Killing Time, vocalist Steve Murphy from Uppercut, drummer Rob Sefcik formerly of Man's Ruin, The Begotten, Uppercut and Electric Frankenstein, and bassist Aaron Bumpus. The common bond? "An addiction to excessive volume, power and driving, distorted riffs." With influences ranging from Zeppelin and the Who to The Melvins, Yob and The Cro-Mags, KD describes their sound as "brutal Sabbath heaviness with hardcore outbursts and disturbed vocals verging on the demented."

Hard-rocking, outer-borough power-trio The Brought Low recently released their third full-length album, the aptly titled Third Record, to near-universal acclaim. The Obelisk called them "the best rock and roll band in New York" and The Big Takeover said "Previous albums have been excellent, but Third Record takes the group to a whole 'nother level, indisputably placing The Brought Low in the ranks of the Great American Bands."

The Mighty High are Brooklyn's #1 regressive-rock act... No ballads. No keyboards. NO ACOUSTIC GUITARS!

XL KINGS • THE PIGGIES
THE SLOPPY HEADS

XL Kings is composed of remnants of Hypnolovewheel, the Martinets, Special Pillow, and other fine ensembles that you'd be less impressed by. They set out to recreate rock'n'roll in their own image, break it, and then roll around in the shards. Punk in spirit, riffing through roots-dirty, Stones-esque hooks, The Piggies (led by Andy Maltz of The Little Killers) exemplify the good-time, vinyl-hugging rock'n'roll and straight-to-tape aesthetic most bands can only hope for... Smart, funny and heady, The Sloppy Heads play primal noise-pop.

THE SWINGIN' NECKBREAKERS
THE COFFIN DAGGERS

Halloween at Hank's Saloon... Costumes encouraged!

Brought on together by brothers Tom and John Jorgensen in 1992, the vintage rock of The Swingin' Neckbreakers debuted in their hometown of Trenton, New Jersey with Don "Shaggy" Snook on guitar. Immediately signing to Telstar Records, the Neckbreakers debuted with the single "Diggin' A Grave," followed by their first album, the classic Live For Buzz in 1993. (After Shaggy's departure from the band in 1996, Jeffery Lee Jefferson joined)... Equal parts Ramones, Rivieras and Paul Revere and the Raiders, the Neckbreakers deliver straight-up rock'n'raunch that resonates perfectly with the average Joe who just wants to shake it down!

The Coffin Daggers, an instrumental surf-punk band from New York, delivers an all out attack on the senses drawing from diverse influences, ranging from Dick Dale, Henry Mancini, Link Wray, and the Cramps. Viktor Venom, one of the founders of legendary NYC punk band Nausea, started the group early in 1999. Vik's punk influences (he has also worked with Reagan Youth and Chaos UK) give the band's music a unique melodic sensibility. Their performances have floored both European and American audiences from start to finish, prompting Chart magazine to declare "no one comes close to The Coffin Daggers when it comes to all-out intensity... they will stomp a mudhole into your fragile minds."

Gangway For Miracles

M.O.T.O.
BRADLEY DEAN & THE TERMINALS
MARVIN BERRY & THE NEW SOUND
SONIC AVENUES

"Masters Of The Obvious' (aka M.O.T.O.) sound is that of one would be a 100% appropriate heard searing over an AM station on a weather beaten drive-in theater speaker some place in the midwest that time forgot. A time when Kiss, The Four Tops, Sweet, Olivia Newton-John, Black Sabbath, Lou Rawls and Boston could be packed tightly next to each other across the tinny mono frequency. A couple of acres of customized vans, big block engines and paneled station wagons with teens inside clutching such bottles as Richard's Irish Rose or Sloe Gin and Mountain Dew inside. The humid summer air is snarled with the scent of snack bar grease and smoldering homegrown. The projectionist for 25 summers had seem films about surfing student council members, sadistic bikers, reckless auto thieves, cheerleaders possessed by the devil and magic Volkswagon's come an go. But the station they played through the speakers before the previews started at dusk always stayed the same. In his twenty sixth summer the Flavo shrimp rolls and the cheap whiskey finally caught up to him and stopped his heart. The guy that took his place declared that AM radio was for squares and little kids and started piping the Ramones through the speakers. All hell broke loose and M.O.T.O. is what was left standing in the ruins." -Smashing Transistors

Bradley Dean & The Terminals are a four-piece rock'n'roll band influenced by early punk-rock and power-pop (i.e. Stiff Records). Features ex-members of The Visitors (NYC) and Bad Manners.

Canada's Sonic Avenues play noisy, snappy punk/pop/post-punk tunes. Two albums and a couple of singles later, they have a new LP in the works to be released on Dirtnap Records in the next few months. Live, you can expect an energetic party mix of songs from their first and second records, along with a couple of fresh, brand new tracks from their upcoming album.

Marvin Berry & the New Sound are an energetic rock and roll band from NYC might best be described as something resembling a late '70s English punk/new wave band playing '60s girl group songs. Emphasis on fun and hooks with a soulful powerhouse lead singer, these guys  have a timeless quality that exemplifies the transcendent power of rock and roll music.

RENO DIVORCE
MAYOR CREEP

With equal parts Orange County punk, honky tonk country, and a tip-jar full of rockabilly swagger, Reno Divorce strikes a unique chord of their own with their brand of punk-rock'n'roll. The band’s longevity is no accident: their fans simply won’t allow them to quit and pursue real careers. A growing number of their faithful willing to have the band’s name tattooed on their bodies keeps them climbing back into the van for tour after tour. They’ve never been ones to rest on their laurels, though. To the contrary, Reno Divorce has seven European tours and several US jaunts under their belt, supporting Reverend Horton Heat, The Queers, and US Bombs, among others.

Ape-Rock!

REIGN OF ZAIUS
EMPIRE ESCORTSGROWLER
CATERWAUL OF SOUND

The very existence of the Great Ape Empire has been shrouded in shadows throughout recorded history. For centuries all but a select few humans have known the Ape as a creature of lesser intelligence, not only deserving of subjugation, but content to receive it.

As time moves forward, however, mankind finally finds itself having developed the technology to allow for the world-wide dissemination of real information on Ape societies — information culled from research and science, not zoos and circus sideshows. It is because of these breakthroughs that Apes have voiced a united "yes" and expressed their desire for the truth to be told.

We, those chosen to usher in the glorious Reign of Zaius have been charged by the High Ape Council to advance human/ape relations through the common language: Music. We have studied human-rock music patterns and perfected its techniques in hopes that we might bridge the social gap between the two premier species of Earth.

Our biggest fear is that the Homo Sapien population has not evolved enough to comprehend the gravity of our situation and will continue to deny this ultimate truth. Although we hold tight to the hope that ours will be a peaceful a mission, make no mistake that those who reject our diplomacy — those who resist — will be rocked forcibly, as our ultimate objective of ape knowledge dissemination cannot afford to be delayed.

The time for change has dawned on us all. The Reign of Zaius will not — can not — be stopped. The fate of all species; Ape, Human, and otherwise - depends on it...

GREG ALLEN'S FRINGE RELIGION
WIDE RIGHT  DEAD COWBOYS

Greg Allen is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter best known for his work with Jerry Nolan of the New York Dolls, and Johnny Rao of the David Johansen Group. He has shared the stage with artists such as Johnny Thunders, Rick Derringer, Johnny Winters, Nazareth, and Jon Spencer. In the early '80s Greg Allen played with Blue Ruin of Providence, RI who recorded a 45 single produced by Billy Rath (The Heartbreakers). Greg moved to London via New York City and formed the Vulture Squadron. He later toured the UK with Two Saints.

Back in New York in the early '90s Greg formed a group with Jerry Nolan of the New York Dolls and Chicago Vin Earnshaw of the Delinquents. Their recordings at Baby Monster Studios were brought to an end by Nolan’s untimely death. Greg then formed the Jigsaw Men and later the Greg Allen Group. The Greg Allen Group recorded the albums Just For You with Johnny Rao and Let's Pretend produced by Nite Bob (New York Dolls, Aerosmith, Iggy and the Stooges.)

The Space Is The Place

ANTIETAM
PG SIX  ESCAPE BY OSTRICH

"While you'd never know it from listening to the undeniably pleasant but comparatively lightweight indie-pop that comprises this up-from-Louisville New York trio's early records, Antietam possesses one of the most stealthy weapons in the post-punk sphere — the utterly transcendent guitar discourse of frontwoman Tara Key. Whether it was a trip down to the crossroads or merely a move to an apartment that allowed for more volume-intensive jam sessions, Antietam underwent a sea change sometime in the early '90s, one that transformed it into a juggernaut capable of tearing the roof off any venue on any given night." -Trouser Press

BARNYARD STOMPERS
Plus: JOHNNY SIDESHOW AND THE FEEJEE MERMAIDS

Casey Miller and Megan Wise — who have collectively played in many legendary roots music outfits including The Hillbilly Hellcats and The Bop Kings — are the power duo known as Barnyard Stompers. They have teamed together in order to combine several generations of Outlaw Country, Texas Stomp, Blues, Rockabilly and Dark Hillbilly, creating a new sub-genre known as Backwoods Twang. Barnyard Stompers definitely have a style all their own; however, they hold true to the stylings of the pioneers of roots music such as Johnny Cash, Tex Ritter, Bukka White, Blind Willie McTell, Bill Monroe, Roy Rogers, Waylon Jennings, Carl Perkins, Hank Williams and more recent artists like Scott H. Biram, Flat Duo Jets, and Junior Brown.
